First of all I need to apologize for an omission in last month's letter in the Circuit Rider. I inadvertently left out the Head Usher position on the list of voting members of the Church Council. The head usher is a very important part of the makeup of the church. In most cases, this is the first person you come in contact with as you enter the sanctuary (first impressions are very important).
The head usher has many responsibilities, of which one is to do a head count at every service. This head count allows the Pastor, and church, to know if we are doing the right things. If attendance falls off, what is the cause? Are we sending the wrong message, or not presenting our self in a positive way? If attendance is good; what are we doing right, and how can we do better?
A short while ago we lost one of the better head ushers that any church could hope to have. He made everyone welcome, and represented the church with honesty and pride. I, for one, miss my Sunday morning chats with him about the weather, church activities, you name it. He will be surely missed.
All of the positions within our organization are important to the makeup of our church. But because of my omission, I felt it important to point out this one in particularly.
In other matters, the church council is in the process of looking for a few people to work on a Bylaws review committee. The bylaws are a group of statements that define the organization, and how we operate as a church foundation. As time passes, changes occur within the operations of the church that require that we periodically review these documents in order that we stay with the times, and to be sure that we are staying true to our makeup. Anyone who wishes to be a part of this committee, contact me and I will notify the appropriate people.
Also, in the past few years the church has had a float in the Memorial Day parade. The town has asked if we are to do this again this year, so, I'm looking for anyone that is willing to head up this project. I am sure that who ever takes on this project will have many hands available to help make it a success. Again, let me know if you're interested. I need to notify the town prior to May 7th if we plan to participate.
Our church is a healthy and viable organization. We are all there for each other, and that is what "Our Church" is all about. God be with you all.
