A testimony from Sipho Mvulane -
I'm married with three children. I joined Tumelong Mission in 1999 as a facilitator in Bokamoso Life Centre. Bokamoso Life Centre is a youth development programme that intervenes in the lives of young people who have dropped out of school because of poverty, broken families, age etc. In 2001, I was seconded to the business unit as a manager of our factory. It is in this factory where we met Rev. Veronica Kyle who was heading the delegation of UCSSA. An interesting relationship developed between Lydia's House and ourselves. It brought so much joy to work in a project that asserts our identity as Africans, which is beautifully expressed in clergy fashion. It is so relevant to the wind of African Renaissance that is blowing from SA to the rest of the continent. The partnership with UCCSA is important because it presents us with an opportunity of sharpening our skills, putting food on the tables of many homes, and a long term prospect of a much needed income. I would like to see this relationship growing from strength to strength. Apart from opening windows of opportunity for people who were historically condemned to a dungeon of hopelessness, the new democracy has given us a sense of pride as members of the human race, a feeling of wholeness, and contentment. This feeling is priceless and it surpasses all gains that came with democracy. The thought that my great grandparents, my grandparents, my parents and I were born in bondage, and my two sons who are 8 and 6 were born free, is so powerful and makes me appreciate God's greatness.
A testimony from Emily Mashiane -
I'm married with 4 children (boys). I'm a born again Christian. I started working with the Nutrition Centres of Tumelong Mission in 1996 as a health worker. In 2001, I was promoted to lead an embroidery group of women called Lerato La Bana, which was established in 1992. It is this group of women that is responsible for a beautiful needlework in UCCSA and Lydia's House stoles. Our encounter with Lydia's House and the understanding of what it represents made a difference in my life and a perception of the Gospel of Christ. Except for the business it brought to us, it is very exciting to work with designs that bring the African touch in the Gospel that has been preached for many decades without a change.
Our feeling of working with Lydia's House is that of pure joy and satisfaction; especially knowing that we also contribute to this magnificent change of attitude and a fresh breathe in the clergy's wardrobe. As for the business it brings to us we are grateful. The partnership is very important to us, as is it is our way of growing into real business. This is still new to us and we are still in the process of learning more skills of working efficiently and more professionally. Democracy in our country has brought a lot of positive changes, especially in terms of freedom of expression and movement. A lot will follow, as the damage caused over a long period of time cannot be washed away in ten years of democracy. It is a long and a hard way to travel, but one full of joy and hope for a better South Africa. The same with the business partnership we have with Lydia's House. It is new and not very easy journey, but it is exciting and full of hope for the better business in the future. |
